Not as easy as you may think, but well worth it!  |
After getting completely confused searching tens and tens of web pages to find an ADSL modem, I decided to look on Amazon, luckily here there were only a few options available, so less confusion! I was after an internal PCI modem as I am not running a network, after a simple search I found the D-link DSL 100 which is a good reputable brand at a good value price.The modem arrived after a couple of days and I got it straight out of the box to install in my PC. Here was the first stumbling block, there was no RJ11 cable included to connect to the phone line, which I had to source somewhere else. Next I had to buy a couple of microfilters to connect to the phone sockets as these were also not included, these filter out the ADSL line noise. Lastly, because I had just upgraded to Windows XP and the CD didnt contain XP drivers, I had to download these from the D-Link web site. These also proved tricky to install. To sum it up, there were a lot of extras to buy and to carry out to get the modem working properly, which was not really detailed in the documentation with the modem. I would say that if you are not technically minded, you may struggle knowing what additional parts are needed and how to install the drivers. In the end it has all been worth the time and effort as I am now enjoying a very reliable internet connection over ten times faster that with my previous PSTN dial up modem. If it wasnt for the lack of extras and driver problems, I would have given this product five stars.

Truly a fantsatic buy at an exellent price, a got to get item for the pc begginers or the pc pros. I was connected to a broadband connection within hours of the modem arriving at my door.
